Life Insurance FAQs

  • Seniors Life Insurance covers you for death by any cause including cancer (suicide is excluded for the first 13 months).

  • Seniors Life Insurance covers you for terminal illnesses, so you can make a claim if a doctor diagnoses you with 24 months or less to live.

  • Seniors Life Insurance covers you for death by any cause (suicide is excluded for the first 13 months), including natural death. It’s important to remember that there may be exclusions or other stipulations around covered events.

  • Each policy will differ depending on individual circumstances and the cover selected, so there’s no set price for life insurance. Premiums are usually based on factors such as: your age, whether you’re a smoker, current health and medical history, the level of cover you choose and the duration of cover. When applying, it’s important that you answer all questions accurately and truthfully as this will affect your cover and eligibility when making a claim.   • That is completely up to you with each provider having different levels of cover available to apply for. With Seniors Life Insurance, you can choose a cover amount that suits you and your family’s needs, from $10,000 up to $200,000, providing valuable financial protection until you turn age 85. This means you can rest easy knowing that an agreed amount of money will be paid to you or your nominated beneficiaries when you (or they) need it most.   • Seniors Life Insurance is designed specifically for NZ residents, and you can apply from age 45–79. You can apply for a policy on your own (single cover) or you can apply for joint cover if you have a partner, de facto or spouse you would also like to protect. Learn more about Life Insurance.

  • Seniors Life Insurance covers death by any cause, plus terminal illness, however suicide is excluded for the first 13 months. It’s important to read your Policy Document to make sure you are appropriately covered for your own unique circumstances.

  • Seniors Life Insurance provides cover until you reach age 85. Designed specifically with older Kiwis in mind, it allows you to secure financial protection even later in life, knowing you have cover up to that age.

  • Yes, you can nominate 1 to 5 people as a beneficiary on your policy. To nominate a beneficiary, download and complete the Nomination of Beneficiaries Form. Once completed, send it to:

  • Any premiums that have been paid up to the date of cancellation are typically non-refundable. Read our Policy Document for more information.

  • Seniors Life Insurance is a stepped premium, which means it will increase incrementally over the life of the policy. The good news is, this annual increase isn’t based on your age which will help keep your premiums manageable.

  • You can cancel your policy at any time by sending a written request with your instruction to cancel, along with your full name and policy number to:

  • Yes, you can apply for a single policy that covers your own life or a joint plan that includes your spouse, partner or de facto. Learn more about Life Insurance.
